When Will It End?

It's been weeks and I never want to touch this book again.

It might be a little bit dramatic, but you get my point.

I am getting tired of The Goldfinch. It has been dragged on now, and I feel like the author is making a vague attempt to keep me engaged by tying my wrists together. Too many new characters that are getting me confused, and sometimes, I am not realizing that the brother was actually the father until about half way through the millionth chapter. This book is beginning to feel like a burden rather than a light read.

The Goldfinch- basis of the story
Regardless, however, the author is still very talented at syntax and diction. If this had been written in any other style than the book currently is in, then I would have dropped it a while back. It has those occasional beautiful sentences that make my head spin in wonder, and it is those beautiful moments that I look for, that keep me reading. I still have high hopes for this book, as I am sure that the Pulitzer prize choosing people did not just pick the first cream colored book on the shelf. I will continue this book, but am lowering my standards a bit to regular book. Maybe I am at fault here for expecting so much out of this book...

Favorite quotes as of now:

  • "He's telling you that living things don't last-- it's all temporary."
  • "He was a planet without an atmosphere."
  • "...a vapor rolled between us and I woke up."

I will update this as soon as my opinion changes again. Hopefully it will!
