During: The Goldfinch

I've been reading this Pulitzer prize winner for a couple days now, and I'm starting to get into it. Like for real. Though the first 20% of the book was filled with action that seemed to unreal and confusing to be a good read, the 21% I'm on right now is starting to suck me in. I really enjoy the author's style of writing and her amazing sense of how to structure a sentence. I love the characters, and the author has managed to make me attached to her characters again. I am definitely keeping this book on high hopes and hope that it turns out as one of my favorites again.

My favorite part of the book, as of right now, is its ability to make images in my head. It has the perfect balance between action, dialogue, and imagery. I also really enjoy its diction and syntax. An example of her beautifully crafted sentences is "He was a planet without an atmosphere." How does this NOT stick in your head? It makes you think about one person on the level of a planet. It is so complex and can be interpreted very deeply. Although Donna Tartt (the author) does not come out and say it, we can tell that this character has lost something very precious to him.

The author is very talented at making words become beautiful, and that is one of the most important parts of a Pulitzer-winning novel. I can't wait to get even further into this book! View its ratings and summaries (and all that good stuff) on Goodreads.
